About Us

Edwards County Community Unit School District No. 1 is located in Edwards County Illinois in the southeastern quadrant of the state. The district is a unit district with grades pre-Kindergarten through twelfth represented.The students are housed in two modern facilities.

A pre-K through 12 attendance center is located in Albion, and a pre-K through 8 attendance center is located in West Salem. The total student population is 985.The district is 230.59 square miles including land in Edwards County, Wayne County, White County, and Wabash County. The vast majority of the land comprising the district is in Edwards County.

The Edwards County Community Unit School District No. 1 was formed in 1948 with the eventual consolidation of the schools in West Salem, Albion, Browns, Bone Gap, and Ellery. There were several small one-room schools that joined the district at that time.

The district has an Operational Budget of over $8 million dollars. The district provides students a solid curriculum with good technological support in the classrooms and several district computer labs.

The high school is using an 8-block schedule. The grade school curriculum in grades K-2 puts special emphasis on reading (the 4 block method), math (Saxon Math series),and writing across the curriculum.
